And no, you definitely don’t have to be artsy to participate (trust me, I can’t draw myself!)

Our Talks & Workshops

If you are looking for a talk or a workshop to bring to your organisation, you are in the right place.

The Aravrit gatherings deal with letters and words. But moreover, they discuss life and opportunities.

Through letters and language, the daily tools that communication is built upon, Aravrit sends a powerful message that transmits to hopeful life in Israel, side by side. Aravrit is complicated to design and create. The process is long and thorough, aiming to have every word in each script very clear and legible. However, the result is simple. The viewer reads the words without any effort while feeling the ease of the possibility of a life together.

The hybrid letters are telling a story
that is our own.

The gatherings are custom-designed for intimate or large groups. They are suitable for all ages, taking into account the interests of the participants. The gatherings maintain a relaxed and fun atmosphere, sharing behind-the-scenes stories and plenty of time for expression of opinions. We also offer a package of several workshops, or a talk and a workshop.

The participants will get:

Caution, they may get inspired and start a new project 😉

Researching for the purpose of visual design requires specific methods that will be explained.

Bite-Size Talk

Workshops

Flagship Workshop

Our flagship workshop consists of a short introduction to Aravrit, followed by a discussion and a hands-on exercise.

The participants will write a word of their choice in Aravrit, through exploration of readability. Personal guidance will be given. Finally, the designed hybrid word will be written on a postcard, ready to be shipped to loved ones, or hung at home.

Postcards are included in the price, and a full list of required material will be given upon request.

Children's workshop

This workshop is for elementary school aged children. It begins with a short explanation about Aravrit, in a children’s level. Several exercises will be then worked on together, focusing on the concept of hybridity.

We will be asking ourselves how different objects can be combined and create something new. While children experiment in creation, they are also exposed to concepts of observing, languages and diversity.

This workshop is energetic and fun, and children leave with creations to take home.

Collective Creation Workshop

The outcome of this workshop is a sculpture or a mural with a new Aravrit word.
After the flagship workshop part, the participants will be creating a new word in a collaborative process. This word, will be then painted/created in three-dimensions to be placed and present the concepts that Aravrit discusses.
This workshop is longer (2.5-3 hours) and works best if the participents know each other.

About Aravrit

Aravrit is an experimental writing system presenting a set of hybrid letters merging Hebrew and Arabic. Each letter is composed of Arabic on the upper half and a Hebrew on the bottom half.

In Aravrit, one can read any chosen language, without ignoring the other one, which is always present.
